I was asked recently for a comment on the ‘demise of rock’n’roll’, it seems such discussion is all the rage amongst the unenlightened these days. The questioner hadn’t even got his genres right – he was taking about Classic Rock, the stuff of the 70’s, and while I am also a fan of that style of music I gave the fellah a bit of a lesson about the difference between ‘rock’ and ‘rock’n’roll’, and also about the thriving community that is the ‘rock’n’roll scene’ worldwide. Not sure if he felt embarrassed or enlightened, but I wish I’d had a wad of UK Rock Magazines to hand to him – this month, for instance, features events attended by thousands of fans and with music right across the ‘rockin’ spectrum. I think the demise of ‘the Big Beat’ of rock’n’roll has been a bit pre-announced! Don’t you?
